Did you know that Kaiapoi is known as the river town of North Canterbury? There is so much to do in Kaiapoi for the whole family, big little and little kids….jet boating, cruising, biking, walking, fishing, movies, swimming and of course picnics, coffees and ice-creams.
Splash out to Kaiapoi and on the way take a blast up the Waimakariri River with Jet thrills. If you’d rather take a cruisy ride, jump on board the historic schooner, MV Tuhoe and sail the Kaiapoi and Waimakariri Rivers. The popular Kaiapoi Aquatic Centre is a great place to take the kids and is open 7 days a week, and the new Picturehouse Cinemas has a good selection of new release and arthouse movies.

Bring out the bikes or you can hire bikes at the Kaiapoi i-SITE Visitor Centre, and ride the Kaiapoi Riverbank tracks – great rides, bridges, art obelisks, parks and of course places to stop for coffees. The BMX track is a great place for the kids to whiz around and is located right by the boat launching ramp.
Fishing is very popular with all ages, from the Kaiapoi Wharf, along the Kaiapoi and Waimakariri Rivers for salmon*, trout*, whitebait* (*in season) and herrings all year round. If you want to have a dabble with a line, then call into the Kaiapoi i-SITE and hire a rod from them, fishing bait also available.
At the beaches you can swim, boogies board, surf, fish, build sandcastles or take the dog for a wander. There is a general store at Pines Beach and a playground for the kids, and plenty or space for games of cricket and touch.
