RESTAURANT Seagars at Oxford
Oxford

The award winning Seagars at Oxford, is a boutique cook school, cafe, and cook store run by New Zealand's own Jo Seagar. Her stunning kitchenware store stocks all appliances and equipment used by Jo in her TV shows.

Seagars is situated in Oxford, a small rural town, 55 km from Christchurch. It is situated on the Inland Scenic Route – Route 72 – near the Waimakariri Gorge bridge. The Waimakariri offers salmon fishing, trout fishing and jet boating.

Oxford was named and grew from the original plans of the Canterbury Association settlement of the province. It was named by Captain Joseph Thomas, agent for the Canterbury Association, after the Bishop of Oxford one of the Associations founders.

Oxford began in 1854 with the establishment of the first sawmill. The Canterbury plains were almost devoid of trees, but at Oxford the Harewood and Mt Oxford forests provided much needed timber supplies.

Today the town is the center of a prosperous farming district – and home to Seagars at Oxford, cook school & café.

Seagars are a member of the North Canterbury Food & Wine Trail.
