The Waimakariri River Regional Park originally created as a way of managing the Environment Canterbury-owned river protection land along the length of the Waimakariri River. The park is divided in to park areas. Kaiapoi Island is a section of the Waimakariri River Regional Park extending from the Kaiapoi River confluence upstream heading west and has 18.5 km of tracks
Kaiapoi Island Trail is a great ride for families and individuals. There are 18 km of two way shared trails of river and forest rides with great views.
Gates open at 4.30am and are locked at 10pm, or 7pm April to September.
Access: There are two entrances for Kaiapoi Island Trail, Raven Quay and Wrights Road.
Viewing: Braided River, birdlife, willow forest, ponds.
Carry on to the Pegasus Trail to Pines/Kairaki Beach and beyond or the Passchendaele Memorial Path to Rangiora.
